Identify The Membrane
TPO, PVC and EPDM have different repair requirements. Color alone does not reliably identify the material. Roof records can help, while the assessment establishes the actual surface and any earlier coating or patch that affects the work.
Preparation needs to account for the condition of the receiving material. A compatible repair depends on a suitable connection, not simply on covering the opening with another sheet.
Distinguish The Defect
A puncture, a seam issue and a failed curb transition are different repair situations. The location and surrounding condition determine the scope. If damage extends beneath the membrane or through a deteriorated area, localized surface work may be insufficient.
The cause is useful context. Traffic, loose objects and work around equipment may affect the same area again unless the property addresses those conditions after repair.
Review Adjacent Details
A patch in the field membrane will not correct an unrelated opening at a wall or pipe. The inspection should consider connected details when the symptom suggests more than one possible entry point.
Moisture concerns also need evaluation. The repair discussion should distinguish a sound surface connection from any affected material below it.
Define The Repair Area
Tell us the location, known system and history of the issue. We can assess the preparation and compatible correction needed. Where surrounding roofing cannot support a durable local connection, the recommendation should explain the broader work required.
